Why we dont want Kalu-Abia PDP

it was a bad Friday for Chief orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia state. As early as 1000 hours, members of the peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the 17 local government areas of the state stormed the government house, Umuahia, with placards with various inscriptions on them, such as, “OUK means confussion,” “No to Kalu and Okija Shrine,” “No more idolatory in Abia state”, “No more stealing of Abia money by Kalu and co,” etc.

Numbering over 50,000, the PDP members were also chanting anti Orji Uzor Kalu songs. Movement practically came to a halt as the PDP members sang anti-Orji Uzor Kalu songs and praises of Governor T.A. Orji. In their address, they told the governor that they do not want former governor Orji Uzor Kalu in the PDP.

According to them, the moment Orji Kalu is re-admitted into the PDP, they will leave the party for him.

Responding, Governor T.A. Orji who was represented by his deputy, Col. Emeka Ananaba, promised the PDP members that he will deliver their message to his principal. He also implored them to be law abiding and continue to support Governor Orji who has already liberated the state from the schaclcles of darkness.

Orji Uzor Kalu won election as governor of Abia state in 1999 on the platform of the PDP. He was re-elected in 2003 but he soon fell out with the then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the then Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih.

The likes of General Ike Nwachukwu, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Senator Adolf Wabara, Col Akobundu and others abandoned the state for Kalu. They teamed up with Abuja and made sure that Kalu was chased away from the PDP.

Kalu formed the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, which he latter destroyed. Since then, he has been trying to return to the PDP but the stakeholders and the owners of the party are saying no.
